Explanation[edit | edit source]

As said in the author's comments, this edit exaggerates Garfield's preference (and fear) of sitting in high places by putting Garfield atop the tallest building on Earth, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Cats are indeed able to survive great falls, due to the cat righting reflex, in addition to low terminal velocity.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

When looking at Garfield standing tall on the bookshelf, an idea came to me to exaggerate this idea into something bigger, which is to put Garfield on something very tall. I decided on the tallest building in the world as of this writing (21 December 2013), which is the Burj Khalifa.

The comic you see here went through quite a number of edits so that it doesn't look cheap. It was harder to pull off because I am not quite an experience photoshopper, so I apologise if the quality doesn't look too good.

Also, I heard that cats are able to survive great falls, so it would be possible for Garfield to survive that fall if he finds himself falling, but then again, Garfield is not an ordinary cat, capable of laughing like a human, eating things cat can't normally eat, and of course, expressing thought. Or it could be that Garfield is just a scaredy-cat.

Original strip: 1978-06-26.
