Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, Garfield obviously was not glowing, and Jon's statement was sarcastic. Here, he is literally lighting up the room - the transcript specifically saying that he is performing phosphorescence, which involves the energy absorbed by a substance being slowly released over time (i.e. any glow-in-the-dark toy). The title refers to bioluminescence, which is the production and emission of light by an organism.
