Explanation[edit | edit source]

The first thing that should be made clear is that the real joke of this comic is being played on the reader.

The transcript and author's notes imply that the edited strip replaced the snail with a picture of a hedgehog colored blue, both a reference to famous video game character Sonic the Hedgehog and a joke about the speed of real-life hedgehogs. However, the image "breaks" before it can fully load, depriving the reader of the actual edit. (A similar gag was used in strip 214, but there it was more obvious.) Also note that the broken image icon used is for Google Chrome, which might spoil the gag for users of other browsers.

On an unrelated note, the title is a reference to Regular Show; the recurring character Muscle Man's catchphrase is "You know who else (is) [X]? My mom!"

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Yeah, I kind of got lazy on this one. I just kind of did a bit of a cut-and-paste of a real-life Sonic up against the snail's body. Heck, the joke (pasting a blue hedgehog with the shell of the original snail to denote Sonic being actually slow in real life) isn't even that funny. It just sort of came upon me one day plus I had about twenty minutes to kill anyway so I thought "eh, why not?" I honestly did try to edit the dialogue to make it say "you're too slow", but my fonts were glitching out and the only other alternative I had was of Comic Sans (and that was a no-go), but thankfully I did manage to write a signature and copyright text. Besides, my copy of Photoshop has been glitchy recently, so there might be a few more tiny graphical errors in there. Just pretend those don't exist. Cool? Cool.

Also, Regular Show reference in the title. I don't know why I put it there.

Original strip: 2005-03-14.
