Explanation[edit | edit source]
Anyone who reads Garfield enough will notice that, despite having birthdays and being mentioned as getting older every year, Garfield never physically ages. This peculiarity is never addressed in the comic itself, but this edit changes the 28th birthday strip to acknowledge that fact. Originally, Garfield was only given a single candle to represent his age at the time, which ended up being big enough to crush the cake. Here, Jon says that he and Odie have come to accept the fact that Garfield doesn't really age. However, an edited version of the first panel placed in between the second and last panels shows that Garfield is getting a candle anyway, which ends up being the giant candle. Also, Garfield is silent in the final panel of the original comic, and his added dialogue is likely meant to suggest that anyone reading this strip will feel jealous of Garfield never aging despite being so old.
