2017: Mildly Obscure Obvious Crossover (Caspar Milquetoast)

Explanation[edit | edit source]
In the original strip, Garfield just wants to sleep, and thinks as much in every panel. Here, he's replaced with Caspar Milquetoast, a character from the early-to-mid-1900s comic "The Timid Soul". The original strip his image and dialogue comes from concerns him taking a "WATCH THIS SPACE" sign more literally than most; clearly, the intent was for people to pay attention to that area as they pass by, as something possibly truly interesting would fill it at some point, but Caspar took it as a directive to watch it continuously, not leaving the area in front of the sign until he really has to.

Here's Wikipedia's entry on the character used here. I'd have called this strip "Mildly Obscure Obvious Crossover (The Timid Soul)", but H.T. Webster's character is better known by his name then the title he appeared under. (Consider yourselves lucky, I could've used Keitaro from Love Hina, another notorious Extreme Doormat.)
Original strip: 2014-06-21.
Caspar and his dialogue is taken from his famous "WATCH THIS SPACE" cartoon.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Jon: You know what would be fun?
Jon: We could lie on the front porch... and pretend we're doormats!
Caspar Milquetoast: Well, really, if something doesn't occur pretty soon I shall have to leave.
