Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip sets up two panels from the original Garfield strip and drops the dialogue of a Mother Goose and Grimm strip into them; "Grimm" is misspelled in the author's notes (it was spelled with only one M). The Mother Goose and Grimm dialogue was slightly tweaked in the transition into the Garfield panels; Grimm's/Jon's first line was only tweaked to adjust for the characters, Grimm's/Jon's second line adjusts the grammar, Ralph's/Garfield's first line was adjusted to allude to Garfield's syndicate (Mother Goose and Grimm is aligned with King Features Syndicate; Garfield is aligned with Andrews McMeel Syndication), and Ralph's/Garfield's second line was adjusted to allude to the sky color from the Garfield strip.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Sometimes, a show would recycle a script from another show, just because it took less effort to use then to do something fully original, frequently because there's a writers strike on. TVTropes calls this concept a "Recycled Script". Well, I thought, what if a similar situation was applied to Garfield?

(As a side note, this is obviously an "it was all just a dream" story, since Garfield is speaking.)

Uses, and modifies, a script from Mother Goose and Grim [sic], 2014-07-16.

Original strip: 1992-09-24.
