2049: Coffee Monster
Coffee Monster |

Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip takes some of the Garfield coffee-drinking poses from the 1988 original Garfield strip and transplants them into the 1985 original Garfield strip. This strip's author revealed their inspiration to have been flipping through Garfield strip collection books; based on what is stated in the author's notes, the author definitely looked through a copy of Garfield Food for Thought: His 13th Book (which includes the 1985 original strip), and it is likely the author also looked through a copy of Garfield Chews the Fat: His 17th Book (which includes the 1988 original strip). It is unknown whether each of these books was a standalone book or a Fat Cat 3-Pack compilation (Garfield Food for Thought: His 13th Book is part of volume 5, Garfield Chews the Fat: His 17th Book is part of volume 6).
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
I was looking through some of my old Garfield books; once I saw the original 1985 comic, I knew I had to do this.
Original strips: 1985-08-13, 1988-04-24.
