Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip was inspired by this topic on the Irregular Webcomc! forums; the author's notes make a reference as to how Lubaf ends posts on the forums, with what's here stated as "changes his nick constantly" differing with each post.

In the forum discussion of #2175, Luc "changes his nick constantly" French issued the following challenge:
- "A truly palindromic strip of sqrt(-Garfield). That is, all of: A) mirrored in the middle, B) making sense as is, and C)featuring dialogue (as we've had mirrored strips before)."
Here it is. The difficult part is the "making sense". Most palindromes make no sense on their own, so I had to provide a context in which the non-sequiturish nature of the dialogue at least appears plausible.
We have to assume that Jon is trying to find a punchline for one of his cartoons, and is bouncing some ideas off Garfield. As we can see, Garfield is more a pacing kind of thinker, while Jon looks for inspiration in a book of country lore.
Original strips: 1994-08-03, 2010-04-17.
Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: Eva, can I stab Doc?
Garfield: Note: I dissent.
Jon: A fast never prevents a fatness.
Garfield: I diet on cod.
Jon: Bats in a cave?
