Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This is based on the buttered cat paradox.

When I first thought up this idea, I wasn't really sure how to go about doing it, but then I remembered that David Morgan-Mar had the Mythbusters theme on Irregular Webcomic! and the rest flowed naturally.

Original Irregular Webcomic!s: #910, #960, #980.

Panel three original comic: Buttered cat paradox.

Original strips: 1978-11-17, 1979-03-21, 1984-08-12, 1987-01-31, 1989-09-18.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Adam: What myth are we busting today, Jamie?
Jamie: Today we are testing the buttered cat paradox.
Jamie: According to the myth (and Wikipedia), the paradox is "a common tongue-in-cheek joke based on two adages."
Adam: And what might those two adages be?
{a cartoon illustration of a cat with a piece of buttered toast strapped to his back awaiting landing}
Jamie: "Cats always land on their feet" and "Buttered toast always lands buttered side down."
Jamie: To help test this theory, we have brought in a very special guest.
{Garfield, with a piece of buttered toast strapped to his back, jumps down onto the floor}
{Garfield suddenly stops in mid-air}
{Garfield starts spinning uncontrollably}
SFX: POW!
Adam and Jamie: Myth confirmed!
