2335: Dialogue Contest
Dialogue Contest |

Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip, combined with the later 2351: Dialogue Contest - Result, lampoons comic strip contests by erasing the dialogue in the middle panel of the original Garfield strip and announcing a dialogue-writing contest in the space at the bottom of the strip, challenging potential entrants to fill in the bubble in hopes that their entry would be the one to run at a later date. Despite the implications that the "contest" portrayed in this strip to be fake (the deadline as stated in this strip being in line with the original Garfield strip's run date, #2351 eventually revealed the "winning" dialogue to be that from the original Garfield strip, and the credited "winner" was presumably fictional), people indeed took stabs at making "entries" in this forum thread.

The deadline is past now in the future, but fortunately there is still a forum where you can submit your entries.
Original strip: 1986-08-14.

{Jon stage-whispers a blank speech bubble}
