The author writes:[edit | edit source]
It occurred to me when looking at the original strip that there was some deeper meaning behind Garfield's body language than hinted at even by the author - the drooping arms, the slumped posture, the apathetic gaze... Then I realized that there were many strips that reflected this same level of resigned apathy. Was this indicative of the languishing boredom in Garfield... or in Jim Davis himself?
Then I started getting contemplative - forget about Garfield in 2053; how would Garfield end, if it HAD to end? With ceremony? Or something a bit more underwhelming?
Surely not like this... But who knows?
Original strip: 2015-01-21.
