Explanation[edit | edit source]
The author's notes explain this strip's core premise; the strip's title is a pun on Schulz's nickname mashed up with Garfield's. As all of the Peanuts references were in place in the original Garfield strips, this very wiki page is not placed in the comic strip references category as a result.
As this strip was first ran in January 2016 and was likely created at least months, if not years, before then, this strip no longer makes reference to every Peanuts reference in Garfield as a result of the 2022-11-26 strip (the strip that ran on what would've been Schulz's 100th birthday); Square Root of Minus Garfield authors have since made use of that strip in their material.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
Panels from all three of Garfield's tributes to Charles "Sparky" Schulz, creator of Charlie Brown and Snoopy and friends.
Panel #1: During Garfield's first week, Jim Davis gives a nod to his inspiration for good luck. Panel #2: At the height of Garfield's popularity, Davis and Schulz are good friends, and do a playful crossover between their equally loved characters. Panel #3: Several months after Schulz's death, Davis has Garfield take Snoopy's iconic place on the doghouse, showing that Sparky's work will live on in all the people he inspired.
Original strips: 1978-06-23, 1988-11-14, 2000-05-27.
