Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author makes reference to a webcomic called minus., in which we follow a little girl as she does various things both natural and supernatural. This can be somewhat horrifying to think about if you know what some children are willing to do even without powers like hers.

In the original strip, Garfield merely thought-spoke his reason (well, one of them) behind not eating mice; in this, he is heavily implied to have turned Jon into a mouse. This is not unlike the minus. strip in which Minus, having purchased a balloon which soon bursts, throws a rock at the vendor's balloon, wildly altering its trajectory so that it hits all of them. When he yells at her, she turns him into a balloon and has him pop.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

You may already familiar with minus., but if you're not, it's a comic starring a quiet little girl with the power to do pretty much anything she wants on a whim, which basically means: do not tease her, and do not scold her, lest you die a strange death by Disproportionate Retribution.

So now we grant these powers to Garfield. Let's see what happens...

Original strip: 1978-06-21.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: {off-panel} A mouse! Get it!
Jon: Garfield! You didn't even try!
Jon: G-Garfield?!? What's happening to me-e-e-e-e... (squeak!) {Garfield looks smug}
