Explanation[edit | edit source]

1815: Sock Puppet Minus Garfield 2, the strip linked to in the first line of the author's notes, actually has nothing to do with the story told within this strip's author's notes; additionally, the narrative from this strip's author's notes does not appear to have been continued to date despite the inclusion of "To be continued..." text.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

[The story so far: with the cyborg duplicate of the President safely disposed of, the author and companion have set the spaceship to self-destruct and made good their escape. Now read on...]

Our pod touched down the moment the spaceship exploded, and a fireball filled the sky, lighting the city in a blinding flash. Debris pattered down gently around us as we got out.

"We've done it!" cried Grace Chatto, whirling me around in jubilation. "Now finally at last peace negotiations with New Zealand can resume."

"We've certainly thwarted their plans, alright," I said. "But I'm sure there's something we're forgetting. Something important..."

"The bomb!" cried Grace.

"Of course! The bomb that started all this! But where is it? What was that clunky line The Green Cutlass came out with when she was taunting us?"

"Um..." The chart-topping pop artiste thought hard. "'When I press the bomb trigger, ahead of you explosions will blaze through the sky...'"

"Of course! The Roy Lichtenstein exhibition at Kettle's Yard! That's where the peace treaty is being signed - tonight! That must be where the bomb is!" I paused to reflect. "She must have thought it was safe to clumsily paraphrase Whaam! after I demonstrated a lack of familiarity with its exact text on national television."

"Then there's no time to lose!" said Grace decisively. She flipped open her phone. "I'd better call MI5."

I gasped.

[Has the multi-hitmaking cellist secretly been a British government agent all this time? How complete is the security state's infiltration of the UK singles charts? And why did they never actually find The Green Cutlass's body? To be continued...]

Original strip: 1980-06-26.
