Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip follows up on 2617: Doggone, itself a strip that visibly removed the dog from the original strip as well as any mentions of the word "dog", and takes things further and deleted everything from the strip save the thought bubbles and Jim Davis's signature; the dialogue itself was worded implying Jim was saving money on this minimalist setup and the owner of the other thought bubble thought that things may have gone too far. An editor's note declares an end to the recurring theme that was being poked fun at with this strip.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

My response to #2617, and of course the two strips it drew off of. Here I take things another step further, by removing almost everything. I'll leave it up to you to decide whether I managed to milk some more humor out of the meme or not.

[Ed: I think I'm going to call this one here. No more submissions on this theme, please. :-)]

Original Square Root of Minus Garfield: 2016-07-18.

Original strip: 2011-08-13.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{A strip the size of a regular Garfield comic, but completely white except for two thought bubbles in the area where the last panel would be}
Jim Davis's signature: Do you know how much I saved on this strip?
Non-existent Garfield: Too much.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

This strip's editor's note would later be reused on iToons 872: Filburt and Heffer Go Too Far (another strip declaring an end to a recurring theme), this time with a link therein linking back to this strip.
