Explanation[edit | edit source]
Saving an image in .jpeg format generally saves space at the cost of reducing the image's quality. This quality reduction is applied to the original comic, where Garfield believes he is being saved from a dreadful Monday only to be taken to the vet, and exaggerated to the point where it becomes almost unreadable.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
Garfield falls prey to the horrors of JPEG compression.
Original strip: 1983-11-28.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Garfield: I hate Mondays. I can't shake this awful feeling that something dreadful is going to happen to me.
Garfield: I'm saved! It's nice to see a friendly face.
Jon: You're going to the vet, Garfield.
Garfield: Arrrrgh!
