Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip replaces Garfield with Banana Man, a character used in Japanese advertising for Dole bananas. The author opted to leave the original dialogue for reasons stated in the author's notes; 2697: Banana Man, Japanese Style, in Japanese would essentially realize this strip's author's original idea.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Thought about writing this strip in Japanese, but quickly remembered I can't speak it.

Original strip: 1990-05-15.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{The Japanese Dole commercial Banana Man tosses a peel near Jon}
Banana Man: Yes! It is I, Banana Man! Here to bring humor to the World!
{Banana Man tosses some more peels on the counter before Jon}
Banana Man: Just spread a few peels around...
{Odie slips on the peels}
Banana Man: And, voilà! Instant fun!

Trivia[edit | edit source]

This strip's transcript was hit with mojibake errors in a later site recoding effort; the original transcript unaffected by mojibake is currently lost to the public due to this.
