Explanation[edit | edit source]

The Mekabon is a robotic enemy from Super Mario Land, first found in World 2: Muda. It is capable of detaching its head and sending it out as an attack. It has to return after a short distance, however. A single stomp defeats it, earning the player 400 points. Tatanga, the Big Bad of the game, might be miffed at his forces being diminished, but he could also fall into the trope of damaging his own units if upset at them.

The Mekabon replaces Odie in this strip; the last thought balloon has been altered to reflect this.

The image has been incorrectly referred to as a "sprite", though it doesn't appear in the game this way. It is likely that the author wanted to use a sprite, but had a hard time finding one.

The title is a reference to the Super Mario Advance series. The first entry in the series was a Game Boy Advance port of Super Mario Bros 2. Number 2 was Super Mario World, followed by Yoshi's Island and Super Mario Bros 3.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Stomping a Mekabon should make anyone's day better. Except the Mekabon. And possibly Tatanga, if he's not doing the stomping.

Original strip: 1980-10-06.

Mekabon sprite from the Mario Wiki and used only as a vehicle for parody.
