Explanation[edit | edit source]

I figured Google's reverse image search would be a neat way to make a strip. So I grabbed a Garfield strip, saved each frame to a separate file, and uploaded them to see what Google would return. I planned to choose one of the "visually similar" images to use as each panel of the new strip.

Well, it returned the original strip, and all of the "visually similar" hits were other Garfield strips. That was boring. So to force Google not to recognise that I was uploading panels from Garfield, I applied a Gaussian blur to each panel and tried again. Success!

For each panel, I chose the most interesting looking result from the first line of "visually similar" image hits. (I didn't choose the very first hits, because they were more boring.) It's interesting to see how well Google matched the colours of each panel. (And how well the kid in the middle matches Lyman's expression...)

Original strip: 1979-11-20.
