Explanation[edit | edit source]

As the author's notes imply, this strip essentially inserts lyrics from "Girl You Know It's True, the song that eventually exposed the frontmen of Milli Vanilli as lip-synchers, into a Garfield strip originally about Garfield lip-synching to a record. Unlike the original Garfield strip, the skipping medium that resulted in Milli Vanilli's downfall in real life was a computer hard drive, which was not replicated in this strip which displayed the original record.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

TV Tropes commented on the original strip's similarity to the Milli Vanilli incident years later, and I started to wonder why we didn't figure out this obvious joke after over 2,400 strips.

Original strip: 1985-06-30.
