2830: Garfield vs Lemmings

Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip takes the original Garfield strip from the day Lemmings first released in Europe in its original Amiga version, and modifies its dialogue to reference a difficult level in Lemmings that seemingly implies the Arbuckles to be the owners of an Amiga computer that Garfield destroyed. It is unlikely this scene would've played out in the Garfield universe on the initial launch day of the original version of the game, as the Amiga version of the game didn't reach North America--where Garfield is set--until some point in 1992; the first version of the game to reach North America was the MS-DOS version of the game in May 1991.
Lemmings saw release on a large number of platforms in its contemporary times, but nowadays is a PlayStation Studios first-party franchise as Lemmings's publisher, Psygnosis, was later acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment (its in-house development arm was later rebranded as SCE Studio Liverpool before being shut down in 2012). The original developer of Lemmings, DMA Design, is nowadays known as Rockstar North, the studio behind the Grand Theft Auto series.

Ahh, February 14th, 1991: when DMA Design created a game where you have to guide "gerbils with suicidal tendencies" to the goal with a minimal number of casualties.
Original strip: 1991-02-14.
