Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This strip was loosely inspired by a recent dream I had. The panel with Lyman in a disco suit walking on a slice of pizza holding out a giant steak to a cat much larger than him has nothing to do with any dreams I had.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: Even though you're imaginary, you have helped me with my comics by inspiring me! I'll tell my parents about you!
Jon: An imaginary cat helps me come up with ideas for my comics!
Jon's mom: Curb that imagination of yours!
Jon's dad: Assuming you have an imagination!
{Garfield looks frightened as he vanishes into darkness}
Jon: I lost my imagination.
Jon {writing on paper}: I still need to make another comic. Sigh...
Kid: Oh boy! It's here!
Lyman {wearing a white disco suit, walking on a giant slice of pizza, holding a steak almost his size and talking to a giant cat}: Have a steak.
Kid: WAH!
{Jon enters home looking depressed. He looks out of a window while it rains, then goes to sit in a chair}
Jon: My life has been a failure. I'll go out and shoot myself.
Jon: What's the point of going on? I lost my best friend.
Garfield {offscreen}: No you haven't.
Jon: An active imagination is a wonderful thing.
