Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, Garfield compared aspects of Arlene's appearance to lasagna ingredients; here, he quotes "Digsy's Dinner", appropriately ending with "lasagna", Garfield's trademark favorite food. Arlene originally called him "Valentino"; here, she calls him "Noel", which, together with the title, is a reference to Noel Gallagher, formerly of the band Oasis, and chief songwriter on the album in which the song was included, Definitely Maybe.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

While thinking about "Garklife", I remembered reading about the Blur vs. Oasis wars of way back when, and suddenly thought about Digsy's Dinner. The rest followed naturally.

Original strip: 1989-05-05

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: What a life it would be if you would come to mine for tea.
Garfield: I'll pick you up at half past three.
Garfield: We'll have lasagna!
Arlene: Hey Noel! Is this a date or a feeding frenzy?
