Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip takes the premise of 470: The Dead Future, but instead of the original Garfield strip for 2008-11-25, a panel from 5: Qwantzfield--which also ran on 2008-11-25--is used to source the third panel. Both #470 and this strip use the third panels of their respective targets to replace the third panel of the 2003-11-25 Garfield strip to punctuate their intended jokes; in the case of this strip, visuals of the very first original Garfield strip is combined with Dinosaur Comics dialogue in the third panel.

As Square Root of Minus Garfield was in its infancy on 2008-11-25, there was no guarantee that a strip would run on that date; Square Root of Minus Garfield was not yet run daily at that point in the run, it did not officially become a daily feature until 251: Beware (and has never schedule-slipped more than a few hours ever since).

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

As it happens, there was something else that happened in 2008 that Jon failed to account for...

Original Square Root of Minus Garfield: 2008-11-25.

Original strip: 2003-11-25.
