Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Garfield the Cat introduces his new college intern, Biff the cat. Biff asks Garfield if there is something he should be doing. Then Garfield tells Biff that he's got a lot to learn about being a cat.

In this Square Root of Minus Garfield strip, Biff the cat has been replaced by Biff Tannen, the antagonist from Back to the Future, specifically his teenaged self from 1955, who instead says his catchphrase.

The author writes[edit | edit source]

I was going through the archives when I saw #2309 and from there I looked at the original. As a huge fan of Back to the Future, I knew what I had to do.

Sorry if Biff looks weird. I'm not very good at Photoshop. Which is good, because I used GIMP, but I'm not very good at that, either.

Original strip: 1998-05-04.
