Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original comic, Jon asks about the last piece of pie (which Garfield has undoubtedly eaten). In this comic, the query is about a last digit of pi, a constant equal to the circumference of any circle divided by its diameter. Pi has no last digit, and it doesn't even repeat, so you can't even call the digit before it starts repeating the "last digit"; here, the last digit we see is the 29th decimal place.

Also note that the similarly math-focused webcomic xkcd is mentioned in the description.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Between this, Garfield Minus Garfield, Garfield Plus Garfield, and Garfield Divided by Garfield, Garfield is quickly catching up to xkcd in the amount of silly mathematics jokes involved. Hopefully, we won't end up getting to "Standard Deviation of Garfield" jokes.

Original strip: 1998-05-14.
