Explanation[edit | edit source]

As the strip's title implies, the strip proper and the transcript are entirely in lowercase. To punctuate that joke, the author's notes proper are entirely in uppercase, with the strip's presentation itself poking fun at the usage of all-uppercase in the majority of comic strips; while there are some comic strips that make use of both uppercase and lowercase (Gasoline Alley and Phoebe and Her Unicorn being examples of using both cases), those are few and far between in comparison to those that use all-uppercase.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

SERIOUSLY WHY DO THEY KEEP SCREAMING IN CAPITAL LETTERS ALL THE TIME. A CENTURY FROM NOW KIDS ARE GOING TO BE REALLY CONFUSED BY THESE NEWSPAPER COMICS.

Original strip: 1986-08-05.
