Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Jon and Garfield are sitting at a table, with their coffee cups, and they seem to be staring away from each other for only two panels. Jon and Garfield's eyes go wide when they notice something. Jon and Garfield are looking up, and when they start to sniff something in the air, their expressions start going wild. Jon and Garfield look at each other with utterly disgusted looks on their faces. Jon starts to hold his nose angrily, while Garfield wipes his nose sadly. Garfield says the furnace really kicked on.

In this Square Root of Minus Garfield strip, Jon and Garfield are sitting at a table, with their coffee cups, and they seem to be staring away from each other for only two panels. Jon's eyes go wide when he notices something, but not Garfield's eyes, cause Garfield doesn't care. Jon looks up, but not Garfield, cause Garfield never looks up in this strip. Jon starts to sniff something in the air, and his expression starts going wild. Garfield's expression never changes in this strip. Jon starts to look at Garfield with an utterly disgusted look, but Garfield doesn't look at Jon, cause Garfield doesn't seem to matter. Jon and Garfield continue to stare away from each other, looking in the opposite directions.
