Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Jon is annoyed at Garfield because he wants to be alone. Garfield puts an arm around Jon and agrees.

In this Square Root of Minus Garfield strip, Jon feels happy because he doesn't want to be alone. Garfield puts an arm around Jon and agrees, but turns around and leaves Jon alone. Jon turns around and has some alone time by himself.
