Explanation[edit | edit source]
In this strip, Jon is talking to Ellen on the phone, saying that she can't go out with him. Jon becomes dejected. Then Jon tried singing which startles Garfield. Jon sang the lyrics to Elton John's song, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, but then Ellen hung up on Jon. Garfield tells the reader that Jon should have tried Bennie and the Jets.
The title of Jon's name is a reference to Elton John.
The author was amazed at Jon's singing.
