Explanation[edit | edit source]

The original Garfield strip was just plain original. Jon asks Garfield that he's been giving the future a whole lot of thought, but he doesn't see anything. What a waste of Jon's past that Garfield said.

Here, the strip is nothing but OW's, causing the strip to cause a whole bunch of chaos. In the first panel, Jon has three eyeballs causing him to say OW. Garfield's mouth is droopy too. Then, in the second panel, Jon's eyes turn big, and Garfield has big ears like a rabbit causing the speech bubble to turn to someone else, possibly Jon, saying OW. Finally, in the third panel, Jon's eyes are right side up and upside-down and his mouth is wide causing him to say OW again. Garfield, with big eyes and a big hand on a table, says OW to another Garfield with big eyes. The copyrights "2018 Paws Inc, All Rights Reserved, and www.garfield.com are all flipped to the other side. Also, the last copyright, "Distributed by Andrews McMeel Syndicate", are flipped too, but the D falls down. The Jim Davis signature now says "Jiii Daaaa3-15-75-375", which, taking inspiration from the month and day numbers of the original strip, sees in it a pattern in which each subsequent number is five times the previous number. One could even say that each number is 3 times five to the xth power, where x goes from 0 to 3 by ones over the course of the pattern. (The choice to extend the second letter of both Jim's given name and surname to three and four letters, respectively, may be meaningful or just random.)

The author's note has nothing but just one word that says "OW".
