Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, Garfield was on a diet being hungry for pizza, which is an obsession that won't go away. He then goes to Jon in the third panel, who wants him to meet a personal obsession of his.

Here, the pizza was replaced by a YouTube logo, and the background has been changed to a pattern that the author used for the strip, after he did a dopamine-inducing activity. Garfield was being addicted to YouTube in this strip, cause he was bored in the first panel.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I have many dopamine addictions, one of which is Garfield. I turned this around for the strip.

The background comes from when after I did a dopamine-inducing activity. The pattern appeared in front of my face. I took this as a sign I was having a dopamine overload. I also chose to use it for the strip.

Original strip: 2001-10-09.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

YouTube: Saayyy... You're looking bored
Garfield: You're just a dopamine addiction. Go away
YouTube: I can't, until you stop being addicted to me
Garfield {holding his arms out and talking to Jon}: I'd like you to meet a close, dear and personal addiction of mine
