Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, which was part of a week-long storyline in which Jon's car breaks down on the way to his family's farm, he and Garfield walk up to an abandoned house, and Garfield finds a tombstone that seems to be predicting his own death.

This edit is a follow-up to Strip 3367, which replaced Garfield's tombstone with the one reading "Here lies Squidward's hopes and dreams" from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "One Krab's Trash". This time, it has been replaced with the tombstone for "Smitty Werben Jaegermanjenson" from the same episode. Mr. Krabs makes up the name in an attempt to get back the valuable hat that he sold to SpongeBob, but to his surprise, there actually is someone with that name buried in the Bikini Bottom cemetery, and SpongeBob brings the hat to that grave, resulting in Mr. Krabs having to dig the grave up just to get the hat back. The strip's title comes from a line that Mr. Krabs uses to describe Smitty.

As noted by the editor, this strip went up shortly following the death of SpongeBob's creator, Stephen Hillenburg.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

As soon as I saw No. 3367, I knew what had to be done.

Original strip: 1982-10-28.

[This seemed like an appropriate if slightly belated way of marking the death of Hillenburg. -Ed]]
