Explanation[edit | edit source]
As the author's notes state, the 1985-06-26 Garfield strip essentially had a blank in Odie's thought bubble for readers to fill in; this strip's author used that strip as a template in order to create this strip, by filling Lyman--Odie's original owner who had already been phased out of the strip by the time the 1985-06-26 strip first ran--into the blank.
The author's notes also brings up an alternately-colored version of the strip from an Odie-focused collection book; this differs from the colored versions of the strip found on various archives, such as the former garfield.com archive (archived on the Garfield wiki on Fandom here), the secure-domain mirror of the former "images.ucomics.com" domain, the GoComics archive (as of writing identical to the former "images.ucomics.com" version), and the former GoComics "Garfield Classics" archive (archived here; the Odie-focused collection book gave the house exterior yellow siding and green sills, while the online archives give the siding and windowsill two different shades of purple
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
On 26th June 1985, Jim Davis made an exploitable template for us. Let's all take a moment to thank him.
Now that that's over, there's something I'd like to bring up. I found this strip in Odie Unleashed: Garfield Lets the Dog Out, and in that book this strip has totally different colouring. Here's a picture:
Original strips: 1978-08-07, 1985-06-26.
