Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, the first panel didn't have Odie on top of Garfield, while the last panel did. Garfield had the feeling he was forgetting something, and, after being fallen on by Odie, remembers that he kicked Odie into next week -- usually not to be taken literally -- last week. Here, the author has swapped the panels and rewritten the dialogue in an attempt to make it makes sense. In this first panel, he tells original series Star Trek character Montgomery "Scotty" Scott to beam Odie up, as Scotty was sometimes left on board the Enterprise, ready to bring an away team back to the ship when they either need to make a tactical retreat or have solved the problem of the episode. The "WHUM" is thus interpreted as a tractor beam instead of a transporter beam, or, indeed, the original's sound of Odie landing on Garfield.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Backwards, it looks like this...
