Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip blends the events of the original Garfield strip into Back to the Future Part III, which first opened in the United States on the same day as the original Garfield strip ran; as such, it portrays Marty and Mad Dog running out of beans and being forced to eat cat tacos. The original Garfield strip's lines were superimposed onto film stills as closed captioning, with the strip's author making the scene come across as a "director's cut" of the film, which could then be interpreted as the film Garfield was watching in the original Garfield strip.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I don't like the liberties that the director's cut took; I never wanted to see Marty eat a cat...

Original film: 1990-05-25.

Original strip: 1990-05-25.
