3618: Japanfield v2

Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip takes 2403: Japanfield and restacks the panels to more resemble a Japanese newspaper comic strip, which are typically read in vertical format; Japanese-originated newspaper comic strips rarely get published in the west due to their very nature, as supplemental material typically seen to the side would not make sense to reformat in a western format.
Sadly, this strip's author made a critical blunder: based on how Japanese is typically read right-to-left as opposed to left-to-right in western languages, they restacked the strip from bottom to top--which is not how Japanese is read in print (Japanese is only reversed horizontally in print from a western perspective, vertically it is read top-to-bottom much like in the west). This blunder was ultimately addressed in 5548: Japanfield v2.5, which properly stacks the panels from top-to-bottom to match Japanese newspaper comic strips.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
