Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip takes advantage of a similarity between Garfield's line in the original Garfield strip and the character Godot, a character from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations. Godot, as one of his "rules", only drinks seventeen cups of coffee during any given trial day; Garfield's line in the original strip also made mention of seventeen cups of coffee and thus the Ace Attorney joke basically wrote itself, with Garfield duly having been given Godot's visor.
The author's notes make note that it doesn't allow Garfield to see marinara on ricotta (a red sauce on a white cheese); due to a poisoning incident that harmed his natural vision (the later SRoMG strip 4992: Red Dahlia would go on to depict the culprit of said incident), Godot's own visor allows him to only see a limited range of colors, thus preventing him from seeing the color red on a white background, as demonstrated when he thought a stone lantern (white) with a name written on it in blood (red) was squeaky-clean.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
That's one of his rules.
It's a shame, though, that, thanks to that visor, Garfield can't see marinara sauce upon ricotta cheese.
Original strip: 2017-10-23.
