3631: Garfield Plus Updated Food Marketing Regulations
Garfield Plus Updated Food Marketing Regulations |
Made by: Manyhills |
Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip was created in response to a European Union proposal to disallow vegetable-based products that imitate meat from being branded with names that invoke terms for meat; veggie burgers would've been among the hardest-hit products. The proposal in question was rejected in October 2020.
The proposal in question, however, would've been far from the only regulation out there regulating the naming of food products based on their composition, manufacturing processes, or location of creation; an example is Pringles calling themselves "potato crisps" due to not meeting American regulations for the definition of potato chips, insistent terminology that ultimately got them into hot water in the United Kingdom due to not meeting their definition of "potato crisps".
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
- Veggie puck
- Veggie cylinder
- Veggie giant novelty poker chip
- Veggie Roomba
- Very oblate veggie spheroid
Original strip: 2019-02-13.
