Explanation[edit | edit source]

The edit is explained in the author's notes.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I'm actually really pleased with how this one turned out.

Vaporwave is a music sub-genre that emerged in the 2010s. It is often associated with art that is wildly colorful, and features a 90s aesthetic. What I did here was apply that formula to the first four panels of the most fitting Garfield strip I could find.

If you want a clear idea of what vaporwave is, I advise listening to Macintosh Plus' album Floral Shoppe, which is perhaps the best-known album to come out of this subculture. Think elevator muzak, but more c h i l l.

Original strip: 1979-01-28.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: yawn
Text: PLAY
SFX: Smack smack smack
Garfield: oh my
Garfield: Just look at that gorgeous sunrise!

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • A later site recoding effort resulted in this strip's title reading as "Vaporwave Garfield (Vaporwave Garfield 雨壱な)"; the original form of the title was unknown at that point. The Archive list page formerly used a shortening ellipsis (. . .), usually reserved for very long titles, for that of this strip, as it, too, had been lengthened significantly as a result. The strip's title was later rewritten into its current form.
