393: ASCIIfield Mark II
ASCIIfield Mark II |
Made by: Colin Foster |
Explanation[edit | edit source]
The first Asciifield was very simple and monochrome. This image is in color, and gives us more detail at the expense of being larger. It also uses a strip with dialogue more obviously connected to ASCII.
ASCII is a character encoding standard that tells programs to display a certain typing character when given certain data. While this is typically done in the service of text-based information, ASCII art attempts to present us with pictures using the more limited forms provided by ASCII characters.
The author writes[edit | edit source]
Unfortunately, image-to-ASCII art conversion leaves out a ton of detail, and also makes text difficult to read. Oh well.
Original strip: 1983-04-21.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Jon: Tell me, my little wahine, what do you do? I'll bet you walk along the beach all day, then go home to your little thatched hut at night, right?
Woman: I'm a computer programmer from Cleveland.
Jon: Close. How about a date?
Garfield: He didn't even blink.
