Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip is essentially the real-life reaction of its author to their previous strip, 3997: Nothing Unusual Here, in that the author doesn't recall actually making that strip. The setup consists of the author's computer with strip #3997 brought up, with the author holding a paper towel with a handwritten message on it; either the author or someone the author knows then took a picture of the setup, which was then submitted as a Square Root of Minus Garfield strip. The first line of the transcript even makes note of the specific brands of both the paper towel and the marker used to write the message, a reference that should still be easy to get despite the line being hit by mojibake in a later site recoding effort.

The strip's title is a reference to the survival horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent; the player character of that game is suffering from a bout of amnesia much like its title implies.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Legitimately, the second I saw the author's name on "Nothing Unusual Here", I was dumbstruck.

Original strip: 1985-04-18.

Message: Gonna be real here.
Message: I don't remember making this.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

This strip's transcript was hit with mojibake errors in a later site recoding effort; the original transcript unaffected by mojibake is currently lost to the public due to this.
