Explanation[edit | edit source]

A Fourier transform is a mathematical technique for processing images to bring out patterns that might otherwise be undetectable by the naked eye. As the author explains, he has taken the source strip and run separate Fourier transforms on the red, green, and blue information it contains.

This is actually moderately interesting from an image processing viewpoint. I Fourier transformed the RGB channels separately and then recombined them.

You can see the strong horizontal frequencies at 3 pixels out from the origin (plus harmonics), corresponding to the panel borders. They have a slight tinge of cyan/yellow to them, indicating the repetitive waves of colour in the background of the original strip. There's some interesting structure in higher horizontal frequencies seen as dark bands running diagonally across the bright vertical lines - that probably corresponds to the text - the angle coming from the slanted horizontal strokes of the characters.

Other than that there's not much structure to be seen.
