Explanation[edit | edit source]

I upscaled this strip in order to edit it more cleanly. This stock Garfield font looks better at larger font sizes.
The mouse is singing the opening lines of Carmen. The title of this strip comes from the Arthur episode "Lights, Camera... Opera!" I know nothing about opera or ballet, so I'm not sure if grand jetés are even used in Carmen or opera in general.
Original strip: 1997-11-24.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Garfield: Jon, I don't think you appreciate what a great ballet instructor I am {A mouse dances across the table} Mouse: L'amour est un oiseau rebelle que nul ne peut apprivoiser! Garfield: We need to work on your grand jeté!
Trivia[edit | edit source]
Both the transcript and the author's notes were hit with mojibake errors in a later site recoding effort; the original transcript and author's notes are currently lost to the public due to this, although the strip itself implies this would be an easy fix (for example, the character in question is used in the name of the popular Pokémon series).
