4520: Odie's Mind 5
Odie's Mind 5 |

Explanation[edit | edit source]
The edit made here is simple: the author added a thought balloon above Odie that wasn't in the original strip.
The "seeing Lyman again back in 2012" part of the author's commentary is referring to an hour-length episode of The Garfield Show titled "Long Lost Lyman", in which it was revealed that Lyman became a wildlife photographer and went to Franistan. Jon learns that he disappeared while looking for the mythical Zabadu. It is later revealed that that the Zabadu is actually a disguise Lyman has been using (passed down to him by its creator, an elderly retired doctor named Sam) to scare off poachers. Lyman offered to take in Odie again, but quickly saw that Odie missed being with Jon and Garfield and gave him back to them.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
After years of struggling to forget his old owner, Lyman, the repressed memories of him suddenly return with full force. Seeing Lyman again back in 2012 only made things worse, as does the picture of him on Jon's mantel. He begins to regret his decision of wanting to go back with Jon and Garfield when Lyman tried to keep him with him. In fact, he'd probably rather be with Lyman at this point.
But Odie cares for Garfield too much to let him see him upset, because then Garfield might worry about him. So he tries to act natural when he's around. But how long will Odie be able to keep this up? How long until Odie snaps and becomes irreversibly depressed?
Original strip: 2015-02-25.
