Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip presents a selection of 14 panels in which characters smack their foreheads, temples, or eyelids. In them:

  • Garfield smacks himself 11 times.
  • Jon smacks himself 2 times.
  • Odie smacks himself 1 time.
  • Irma smacks herself 1 time.

Situationally:

  • Irma and Garfield smacked themselves because she started complaining about the lack of service in her own diner, forgetting that she was supposed to be the one providing it.
  • Garfield smacked himself as part of a single-player game of tag.
  • And again, as he realized why he doesn't have anything: because he has to work for it.
  • And again, as the use of the doorbell fooled him into thinking that the visitor was not Nermal, only to discover that Nermal was on stilts.
  • And again, after Jon is rejected over the phone by someone he doesn't even know.
  • And again, after he mixed up "right" and "wrong".
  • Jon smacked himself after Garfield revealed that he stole the neighborhood petition complaining about him.
  • Odie smacked himself as Garfield declared himself the winner of the laziness contest Jon guessed they were having; his guess prompted Odie to react.
  • Garfield smacked himself for not foreseeing Jon's fat joke.
  • Jon smacked himself because Garfield took his identification of Garfield and a mouse as pleasant introductions and shook hands with the mouse.
  • Garfield smacked himself as the electronic talking scale betrayed that its assertion that Garfield had lost five pounds was a lie bought with a bribe.
  • And again, as a different scale, having already judged him as fat, tells him he'll be fatter after he scarfs that eclair.
  • And again, as he's exposed to too much happiness.
  • And again, as he's practicing being exasperated.

The final panel follows the panel before in its original strip, being squashed horizontally a bit and having its dialogue retyped, but with "practicing" respelled as the non-American spelling of the verb, "practising".
