This strip is part of an effort of intentional lazy edits designed to lampoon lazy edits; unsatisfied with how far the running gag had been drawn out (as of submission whenever that was; the author has been a frequent contributor throughout much of the running gag unwittingly started by 2193: All You Need is Me [and previously contributed to by the same author in 2553: Tener Cuidado Con Lo Que Deseas]), the creator made the barest of edits to their original strip (taking only 3 seconds to do so).
And if one needed proof that the creator grew dissatisfied with the gag, look no further to the quote from The Simpsons; the source is the episode "Dude, Where's My Ranch?", where (as part of the first act) Homer creates the song "Everybody Hates Ned Flanders", which explodes in popularity, to the point of being overblown and overplayed (much to the detriment of Homer himself).
