Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip takes the premise of physically throwing Nermal straight through several pages of a collected comic strip compilation book itself, with the holes in the door Garfield threw Nermal threw each show a panel from a different strip. The author's notes imply that the author may be from a country that compiles Garfield comic strips in a different fashion than in Garfield's native United States, as the author implied that the strips are from the thirty-third volume. Garfield Throws His Weight Around: His 33rd Book, the thirty-third volume in the United States, however, does not include any of the original Garfield strips--that book compiles strips between 1997-05-14 and 1997-12-13; the volume in United States collections that does include the bulk of the original Garfield strips is actually Garfield Hogs the Spotlight: His 36th Book, which compiles strips between 1999-02-14 and 1999-09-11. (The bonus strip included a version showing the infamous 2001-11-28 through the Nermal-shaped holes as an obvious gag thrown in for rule of funny; that strip was compiled in Garfield Survival of the Fattest: His 40th Book based on the United States configurations, meaning even the larger Fat Cat 3-Pack books would not have 2001-11-28 sharing a book with the 1999 strips, with 2001-11-28 being part of Fat Cat 3-Pack #14 and the 1999 strips appearing in Fat Cat 3-Pack #12.)

Additionally, United States Garfield collections would not have the three earliest strips would not all show later dates if one were to physically expose other strips through Nermal-sized holes, as United States Garfield collections have weekday strips be two per page (Monday and Tuesday together, Wednesday and Thursday together, Friday and Saturday together, with Sunday strips occupying pages all to themselves), hence either the the first two strips (a Wednesday-Thursday pair) or the third strip (a Friday) of the first three original Garfield strips, depending on how the strips fell onto the pages, would logically show earlier strips; those on an odd-numbered page would show a later strip, those on an even-numbered page would show an earlier strip, and logically the third of those three would have to be on an odd-numbered page lest there be a Nermal-shaped hole in the first panel of the first strip in question. As the three later 1999 original Garfield strips were from a Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday, there is no logical combination that would allow any of the latter three 1999 strips to appear through the depicted holes on the earlier three 1999 strips as the pairs of 1999-06-30/1999-07-01 and 1999-07-12/1999-07-13 cannot be both on evens or both on odds; if 1999-07-02 were on an odd-numbered page, 1999-07-10 would also be on an odd-numbered page (the former being on even would also put the latter on an even, but in this case the former would expose an earlier page and not a later one), but the stacking would mean they're not parallel (1999-07-02 would be page top, 1999-07-10 would be page bottom), whereas if 1999-07-02 were on an even-numbered page, there would logically be Nermal-shaped holes in the first panel of 1999-06-30.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This is what would be seen if Nermal was thrown through the comic strip itself, which would let us see other panels in the comic book.

At least, this is how it would be with the 33rd Garfield comic book in my country.
