5647: Two-Downmanship
Two-Downmanship |
Made by: Legendarium |
Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip riffs at the effort of intentional lazy edits designed to lampoon lazy edits that 4704: One-downsmanship is part of; while some of the same editing trends have been used en route to the result in this strip, this strip uses a fresh copy of the original Garfield strip and trims that down to the first panel. The usage of a fresh copy of the original Garfield strip (as opposed to being a different way to pare-down 3673: One Better, an earlier strip in the intentional lazy edit trend) is apparent in three ways: first, this strip is vertically a higher-resolution file; second, there is only one column of legal lingo and it's on the right-side of the strip, the column in question being on the left side of #4704 and its ilk; third, the small portion of the successive panel shown at the far right lacks a border making it clear that it's the second panel of the original Garfield strip left behind, whereas #4704 was a straight reuse of 4160: One Even Better/Worse, which itself had been trimmed down from the aformentioned #3673, itself trimmed down from 2553: Tener Cuidado Con Lo Que Deseas, itself a strip that had overlaid the first panel's art assets over all three panels including the panel border.

The joke is playing directly off of #4704, further being downplayed by not being edited at all.
