5678: Comedy minus time
Comedy minus time |
![]() Made by: Manyhills |
Explanation[edit | edit source]
In the original, Jon sang "I'm sittin' on my spurs, Mama"; Garfield's reaction was almost the same, except that part of the plan was to make him (Jon) watch. Here, Jon sings part of "5, 6, 7, 8", a techno-pop and country pop song, linked in the second part of the author's note, by British group Steps; this strip's strip number further punctuates this reference. One of its members, Ian Watkins -- very much not to be confused with the Lostprophets singer of the same name -- was given the nickname "H" due to his hyperactive personality; thus, Garfield's plan to make "H" watch.
The first part of the author's note links to another time Manyhills did an author's note linking to the Europop song they had one of the Garfield characters quote.
It has been said that Comedy equals Tragedy plus Time. (This saying is often attributed to Carol Burnett, but its origins are unknown.) Given that, if we subtract Time from Comedy, we get Tragedy, the name of another song by Steps.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
I believe I was quite clear on this point: NO JOKE HERE JUST EUROPOP.
Original strip: 1994-11-23.
